Terms:
-Full Disk Encryption (FDE): Encryption of as much of the hard drive as possible and still boot. Usually has to leave a “boot” partition unencrypted to allow system to boot far enough to decrypt the rest of the drive.
-LUKS: a disk-encryption specification created by Clemens Fruhwirth in 2004 and originally intended for Linux.
-dm-crypt: a transparent disk encryption subsystem in Linux kernel versions 2.6 and later and in DragonFly BSD.

Linux Distros' Crypto Install Options

Debian - Full Disk Encryption of LLVM via LUKS in install.
Crunchbang - FDE (LUKS) in install.
Peppermint - FDE of LLVM in install and option to encrypt $HOME directories on a per user basis.
Ubuntu desktop
Ubuntu server - FDE of LLVM in install and option to encrypt $HOME directories on a per user basis.
Linux Mint - FDE of LLVM in install and option to encrypt $HOME directories on a per user basis.

BSD Distros' Crypto Disk Instal Options

PC-BSD - versions >= 10.0.2 include geli FDE option. Also can use PEFS to encrypt individual home directories.
